My goals
My Electoral Goals in Previous Elections
Parliamentary Elections 2023 Goals:
I am running for parliament because these elections will determine the future of Finland’s welfare and rule of law once again. In recent years, we have seen a decline in democracy and human rights, even in Europe.
I want to influence the fact that in the future, fundamental and human rights, as well as children’s rights, are at the center of political decision-making.
A Finland for All Children and Young People
My main goal is to include the interests of children, young people, and families with children in all political decision-making that in any way concerns children or young people. Consideration for the youngest should become self-evident in politics. The goal of the national child strategy is to make Finland a child- and family-friendly country that respects children’s rights, where all children can live and grow equally well. We must ensure that the key guidelines of the national child strategy are widely implemented throughout Finland.
Equal and Quality Early Childhood Education and Training
A good future for everyone is built over the long term through education and skills. Education is the most effective way to combat inequality. We must enable equal education for all children and young people, as no one’s family background should determine their opportunities for education.
Equal, Equitable, and Quality Services
The maintenance and development of universal welfare state services provide everyone with equal opportunities in their daily lives. We must ensure that the well-being of all is taken care of in the future. Everyone should have access to the support, assistance, care, and services they need without delay, regardless of their income level.
Social Justice
The aim of all politics should be a fairly distributed well-being of people and a shared responsibility for those who are vulnerable, those who need support and help. In this current global situation, we must ensure the realization of equality and human rights for everyone.
Ecological Sustainability
We must preserve biodiversity and enable the sustainable use of natural resources. In the future, resources should be directed towards climate-resilient solutions and promoting a circular economy. Climate and environmental policy solutions must also be socially sustainable. Our decisions must ensure a good standard of living for future generations.
Municipal Elections 2021 Goals:
- A Helsinki for Children and Young People
In Helsinki’s politics, decisions must always be assessed for their impact on children and young people. Participation of children and young people must also be strengthened. The pandemic has left its mark on the daily lives of many children and families—now is the time to address the aftermath of COVID-19. - Quality Early Childhood Education and Training
Children have the right to quality early childhood education and training, as well as a healthy and safe learning environment. Indoor air problems must be fixed. Bullying and violence must be stopped in schools. Money should be allocated where it is most urgently needed. We must ensure that resources are used flexibly and effectively in our constantly growing and changing city. Local schools must be good everywhere. - Sufficient Affordable Housing
Even those with low incomes must be able to afford to live in Helsinki. No young person in the city should be homeless. We must prevent regional inequalities by investing in local services, good urban planning, and increasing residents’ participation.
Municipal Elections 2017 Goals:
- Get Early Childhood Education in Order. There must be a cap on group sizes in daycare. The subjective right to daycare must be maintained in Helsinki in the future.
- Good Schools for All. The city must guarantee that children and young people have access to good schools throughout Helsinki.
- Fix Indoor Air Problems in Schools. Children and young people have the right to a safe learning environment.
- Opportunities for All Willing to Participate in Hobbies. Every child must be guaranteed the opportunity for at least one hobby. The city must support arts education and junior activities in sports clubs.
- Sufficient Affordable Housing. Even those with low incomes must be able to afford to live in Helsinki.
Parliamentary Elections 2015 Goals:
In the upcoming electoral term, we must:
- Restore the index-linking of child benefits. Child benefits should not reduce social assistance. This would be one way to lift families with children above the poverty line. Currently, over 100,000 children live in poverty.
- Maintain the subjective right to daycare. The distribution of home care support should leave decision-making power to parents, as family situations vary widely. I strongly support fathers’ involvement in childcare, but I believe in carrots rather than sticks. By changing workplace practices and attitudes, fathers’ opportunities to participate in childcare will increase.
- Facilitate the reconciliation of work and family life. Temporary leave for childcare purposes should extend to 13-year-olds; the current age limit is 10 years.
- Emphasize preventive social work and low-threshold services for families with children, such as home services. This way, many children can have a good adulthood, and society saves resources.
- Legislate maximum client numbers for child welfare workers as proposed by the professional organization Talentia for social sector higher education professionals. One social worker should be responsible for a maximum of 30 client families. Currently, one worker may have to manage over a hundred families’ cases.
- Legislate class sizes in elementary schools and group sizes in daycare centers. The quality of education suffers in oversized classes. Similarly, large daycare groups strain both children and employees.
- Train officials and decision-makers on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Currently, the convention is poorly known, which is reflected in decision-making.
- Remove age limits for hearing children in legislation. Children must always be heard in matters concerning them according to their age and development level. Authorities need training in child-centered hearings.
